Applied Research Grant (up to 200,000 Swiss francs)
This programme provides funding for both early-career and established researchers, and teams who present with a track record in generating and translating basic research findings towards clinical application. Interdisciplinary (collaborative) research involving basic scientists and clinicians, as well as research groups from different universities/entities, is strongly encouraged.
An early-career researcher is defined as a dependent researcher who has a maximum of five years’ academic research experience following the completion of their PhD degree, or completion of clinical training (residency programme) and provide demonstration of enrolment in a research programme (i.e. PhD).
Every other researcher is considered an established researcher, having both:
At least five years’ academic research experience following the completion of their clinical training/PhD (or equivalent) degree
Track record of funding (principal investigator of at least one completed and fully funded grant/project) and publications (at least 5 first- or last-author publications + 5 other publications) Click here to apply
Application Deadline: 15 May 2024.
STEG PhD Research Grants (up to £15,000)
Application to this call is now open.
STEG invites applications to the Seventh call for proposals for PhD Research Grants.
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a PhD programme to be eligible for this call and will require a letter of support from their PhD supervisor sent no later than two weeks after the deadline to the STEG Team at steg@cepr.org.
PhD Research Grants of up to £15,000 can fund research assistance, data collection and/or purchase, and stipends. Stipends should only be requested if they allow the researcher(s) to reduce teaching/administrative duties and therefore free up time for research. There is scope for other stipend usage in the case of researchers from the Global South. Stipends are capped at £12,000 for PhD students in programmes located in high-income countries and the PPP equivalent for PhD students in programmes located in low- and middle-income countries. Grants will also support travel to field sites, even when secondary data is utilised. Click here to apply

I am looking for multiple PhD students to start in the Fall 2024 or Spring 2025 semester.
We welcome all qualified candidates to apply. Qualified candidates from underrepresented minorities in STEM are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications will be reviewed until the positions are filled. The self-motivated applicants should have a background on optimization, machine learning and physics-based modeling of engineering systems. There are two ongoing projects that new PhD students will work on:
Project 1: This project focuses on modeling design decision-making in teams under competition. This project will involve using computational modeling of design decision-making with Bayesian Optimization, Sequence Learning and Game Theory. The project will also have human-subject experiments with design problems on computer platforms to study team behaviors under competition.
Project 2: This project focuses on studying collaborative behaviors between human and AI systems during an engineering system design process. The project will have a computational analysis of human-AI collaboration for design optimization problems and human-subject experiments on a video game where human and AI systems collaboratively solve an engineering design problem.
